The ECIS International Teacher Certificate (ITC), jointly offered by the European Council of International Schools (ECIS) and the University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE), has been designed to meet the professional development needs of experienced, exemplary teachers in internationally minded schools.
ECIS and the University of Cambridge International Examinations are very pleased to announce that Deakin University, Australia, a leading provider of graduate teacher education and distance learning, with internationally recognised programs in global education and international schooling, and which shares the goal of developing internationally minded teachers, will offer the recipients of the ITC credit towards the Deakin Graduate Certificate of Education and Master of Education courses.
The Graduate Certificate and Master of Education courses offered by Deakin University provide advanced professional development for experienced teachers and can be tailored to meet the particular needs of schools and individuals whether in classrooms or management roles. Currently teachers undertaking these courses are located in countries such as Indonesia, Japan, China, Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand, The United Kingdom, Germany, The Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi, Oman, Dubai, Canada, the USA. Many are teaching in international schools.
Some of the areas of interest and specialisation available within the programs are: International Schooling, Educational Leadership and Administration, Curriculum Studies and Development, Pedagogy and Assessment, Language and Literacy and Policy Studies, as well as specific curriculum areas (Arts, Health and Physical Education, Mathematics, Science etc).
The courses may be completed by coursework only or through a research pathway, which may qualify graduates for entry into the Higher Degree by Research (Doctorate) program. Details of the programs can be found at www.deakin.edu.au/arts-ed/internationalschooling.
The Graduate Certificate is designed as a half-year full time or a full-year part time course and requires completion of four credit points (units). The Master of Education is designed as a one-year fulltime or two to three year part time course and requires the completion of eight credit points (units). Students who have completed the Graduate Certificate of Education may credit four points to the Master of Education program.
For those who have completed the ITC and subject to appropriate assessment arrangements, Deakin University may grant two credits (units) towards either the Graduate Certificate or the Master of Education program.
Deakin University does not grant credit simply for attendance at conferences. However, papers presented at such conferences may be taken into consideration or, indeed, constitute part of the requirements for individual units.
These courses do not, of themselves, guarantee registration or licensure as Deakin, as is the case with universities in the USA, UK, Canada and Australia, does not grant licensure. However, licensing authorities may consider the applicability of such units and qualifications when granting or renewing registration or licensure.
Costs may vary depending on the units chosen as part of the course and, as they are costed in Australian dollars, on international exchange rates. They are comparable with those charged by leading universities in the USA, Canada and the UK. Current information on fees and other costs is available at www.deakin.edu.au/fees.
